For prospective authors

NIAAH Press submission guidelines

We welcome book proposals and public scholarship that deepen understanding of African American health and make knowledge useful to families, clinicians, students, community leaders, and institutions.

NIAAH Press connects medicine, social science, history, and community knowledge. We are interested in work that is intellectually sound, clearly written, culturally grounded, and attentive to the conditions that shape African American health across the life course.

Begin with a proposal.

Please do not send a complete manuscript unless NIAAH Press requests it. An invitation to submit additional material is not a commitment to publish.

What we publish

We consider original books, practical guides, professional education resources, edited collections, and public scholarship for general and professional audiences. Strong proposals explain why the work matters, who needs it, and how it contributes to African American health.
